Finding a balance
As an artist, you should have maximum input because it’s your record. Unfortunately, A&R people end up having more input than you do, unless you’re high-profile. On the other hand, many artists who are doing their first record are inexperienced and the A&R people –– if they’re good –– can add some really valuable input. It’s a balance. You should walk away feeling that the record met your artistic intent and the A&R person should feel like they’ve got the first single.

I formerly played in Tasmanias top band, then left due to ‘hangers-on’, media & drug-dealers. I focussed on acoustic gigs until alcohol took total control of my life.
After a 7-year hiatus I returned to the recording industry early last year & am doing rather well, having been inside the Top 200 at ReverbNation and being the featured artist on numerous commercial and internet radio stations.
I shall be releasing a third album in 4-6 weeks and am seeking advice in the areas of promotion and distribution.
